Varanasi, also known as Kashi or Banaras, is one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited cities and the spiritual capital of India. Situated on the banks of the sacred River Ganges, it is believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva, drawing millions of pilgrims from across the globe who come to wash away their sins in the holy waters or perform final rites for their ancestors.
The city is a mesmerizing maze of narrow, winding alleys (galis) filled with ancient temples, bustling markets, and the aroma of incense and street food. From the spectacular evening Ganga Aarti to the burning pyres of Manikarnika Ghat, Varanasi offers an intense and profound experience where the rituals of life and death are performed side by side in a way seen nowhere else on earth.
